We're currently dealing with care homes for Mt father and law and let me tell you, if we were not there every day my father in law would probably not have made it. He had a stroke and sent him to the only place nearby that could take him and in the time span of maybe 2 days he fell multiple times, one of them being bad enough he had a huge bump on his head and he started bleeding from the brain again. We're still fighting the home but if that's how they treat patients who have family nearby imagine how bad it is when there's no one to check up on them. Atrocious honestly.

The most fucked up part of all of this is that we’re discussing nursing homes like it’s fucking normal to lock up your own goddamn family in a strange place full of horrifying abuse at the end of their lives.

This is a uniquely American brain rot that has spread worldwide. Capitalism has eroded the family dynamic so badly that we discard our elderly like trash and kick kids out at 18.

This is not normal in the entire rest of the world.

Not everyone is equipped to deal with their elderly relatives, who may have medical issues that require trained care 24/7.

There is absolutely a need for facilities that provide this service.

There are also issues with allowing these facilities to be run as for profit enterprises.

This is true. So much of the “assault on the nuclear family” , it’s really just based in it being incredibly impractical and bad for virtually everyone involved.
