That seems pretty cool.
Edit: It would be even cooler if that made players want to map more in order to have more realistic gameplay scenarios.
Everything #OpenStreetMap related is welcome: software releases, showing of your work, questions about how to tag something, as long as it has to do with OpenStreetMap or OpenStreetMap-related software.

That seems pretty cool.

If you want to play in your hometown and nothing is mapped it might motivate you.
...now I'm thinking of some gamers mapping strategically to min/max the game mechanics
Oh please no
I wonder if they pull the data straight from Overpass or if they use a cached copy on their servers.
As a kid I always wished I could play video games in my home town. Imagine games like GTA in your neighborhood. Of course we are far away from that, but it is a great idea to dynamically generate environments based on available geo data. I can also imagine this can motivate people in mapping. Gamification is a strong vehicle, look at apps like StreetComplete that have gotten really popular in a short time and play around with badges and levels etc. thanks for sharing!
Whoa I didn't know about street complete. I've been doing Google streetview for a while until they killed the way I was able to contribute, this looks interesting
I had the same idea as a kid, I think around the time "true crime: streets of LA" came out. I wanted GTA: Your City, where it like connects to Google earth type of shit and recreates any city you want. That'd be so fun.
Always had the same idea but with City builders. I hope someday it becomes a thing.
You wanted to shoot up your town? That doesn't seem healthly
If you're looking for other games based on real maps, 911 Operator is one that I recommend. I'm not sure exactly which map source they use, though.
EDIT: LOL. I see it's the same developer for both games.
@Showroom7561 @variants it is OSM. Also see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Games
Oh man, you've given me a lot of games to check out now! LOL
Awesome thank you
I love this idea and am delighted to learn about both, thanks!
Haha that game has been on my wishlist for a while
Too bad it’s windows only…
right? hard pass, but i wish i could throw money at them :(
Where did it get the 3D buildings from? I thought OSM doesn’t have 3D?
You can derive them from footprint, height and basic roof type
This is really cool, I've been mapping my area and thinking about making a game that does a similar thing, nothing special just thought it'd be fun to make something that tries to generate levels using map data. I've got plenty of other stuff to get on with and mapping is addictive enough on it's own so i might just try this instead.
@variants This looks cool, I will definitely give this a go when it's released properly.
Yeah I'm going to wait a little but as well at least until it's more balanced from what the reviews are saying
