PSA: Hospitals can't refuse an ER visit if you have no insurance

[–] MostlyBirds 15 points 1 year ago

They can sure as hell refuse you other services, though, and countless life-threatening conditions aren't things you can just go to the ER for.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

True. But you'll be sitting there for 3 days before they see you.

[–] chakan2 2 points 1 year ago

Make sure you show up with a fake ID.

You joke, but funeral services these days are around that price.

Many states you have to pay for the death certificate as well...and hopefully you're loved one didn't have debts cuz oh ho boi you're in for funsies

Tldr; Don't Be Poor

You wish it was that low.

I went to the ER uninsured the other day. The total came out to about 1,700 for an EKG, two blood oxygen tests, and a doctor to say ”lol ur young you’ll be fine”.

Thankfully the uninsured discount they gave me dropped the price to about $650 which would have been the same as the shitty insurance my work offers.

Always have an oh shit fund kids.

I'll give you 4.20 and im taking a risk here

Actually they don’t just let you die. They save your life and then you spend the rest of your life in crippling debt, wishing they had just let you die.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

And that's the power of freedom 🫡🫡🫡🫡🦅🦅🦅🦅

[–] Matt_Shatt 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Should be a real patient option frankly…

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Dont believe letting you die will be free

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

The real answer to this is hospitals would never let a good cash cow die. Hospitals will not refuse treatment just drown you in debt for the rest of your life.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

On point! Someones gotta pay the bill sir! FREEDOM

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In your final moments you will realize your doctor is out of network

[–] Asafum 1 points 1 year ago

Well that will be the first time in my life I actually say "that's someone else's problem." Lol

[–] Stupidmanager 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Nah, this is the country of Pro-Life. We can’t let you die, who would we have to suffer with us?!?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

They only care before you're born. After the damage is done to the mother you've fulfilled your purpose.

[–] reverie 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You cannot die, that would be amoral and unethical.

Instead you must live on with mountains of medical debt, sickly and defeated

[–] Stupidmanager 2 points 1 year ago

Now that’s true patriotism! If only we could saddle our children with this same debt after we die from the failing healthcare system. ‘Merica!

[–] cmoney 10 points 1 year ago

While you're waiting to die, please feel free to suffer in agony because assisted suicide isn't profitable uh I mean ethical.

[–] Stupidmanager 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you forgot: “Don’t forget to rate us on Google and Tripadvisor, hope to see you again!”

How Can We Improve? Would you be willing to take a short survey about your user experience today?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In more developed countries in Europe, this is fortunately not a thing...

[–] AToM_exe 1 points 1 year ago

But.. Just end my suffering! Not everyone can be that lucky..

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

FOR FREE? So nice. (Russian here with free insurance cough)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

This is a serious misconception. In the us medical professionals are obligated to provide care regardless of if you can pay or not.

[–] Elric 7 points 1 year ago

Yes but what level of care...

[–] andrr_464 2 points 1 year ago

So you live but are in huge Dept that you are unable to repay so it goes down to future generations...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Only to the point where you won’t imminently die. You’re not going to get chemotherapy though if you’re dying of cancer, so yes they will let you die.

[–] Lordgeoffery 1 points 1 year ago

My God this is funny 🤣

[–] Batpool23 -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Canada- You wanna die? Perrrfect.

As for the US if you're working, you should have insurance. Thank Obama if you do not. I vividly remember when he screwed that shit up.

As for Europe, good luck.
