There used to be reasons to use Google over DuckDuckGo. But the latter's result quality has gone up while the former's has been enshittified. Still, something about old habits and how they die.

I use SearXNG. They search Google anonymously. I also like the layout better. Less bullshit. Straight to the content.

Simply head over to Google and click your profile in the top right (log in if needed)

Do privacy motivated people even have a google account?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

"Kinda" - not an account that I'm using to search with. Also, I don't use Google for searching.

I have it bc I still need to download apps via Play Store on Graphene. Don't use it for anything else tho

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You can download theAurora Store and download Google Play apps without an account.

Aurora Store currently has problems (probably caused by google). Anonymous login sometimes fails or searches lead to a "sorry, you're rate limited" error.

Awesome! Going to do that this weekend

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I would very much like to delete my Google Account, but alas, I have to use it for work and some Very Important accounts.

Unless you automate this to run a search at random intervals, wouldn’t google see a blast of searches and just ignore it as noise? I imagine they employ AI already to filter out nonsensical activity or bot activity.

Really, just stop using google. I migrated from google many years ago. It’s been great. The frustrating part is when they buy up good products and run them into the ground (Nest, Fitbit). Seriously fuck google.

Why not use DuckDuckGo or Brave search engine?

I don't Qwant to

Or you can pay 10 bucks for Kagi and enjoy privacy.

It's a premium, subscription-based search engine. Basically, you just pay them monthly instead of getting ads.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Lol. Not even open source. Just use a public Searxng instance
