Confidence matters more than you might think. With enough confidence, you could walk down a high street completely naked, and leave others wondering if they are actually over dressed.

The bathtub scene in "Get Carter" is an excellent example. Michael Caine manages to walk out onto the street with nothing but a dad body, a shotgun, and a pissed off expression.

The reason is because we are used to looking at ourselves mirrored.

So when we see ourselves in pictures the normal way, something looks off since we aren’t used to it and think we look awful.

The thing is that the people around us are used to seeing us the normal way. So to them the mirrored version looks off.
