As Valentine's Day approaches, the price of cocoa has never been higher.

The cost of the key ingredient in chocolate has been grinding upward for over two years. In the past year, it has more than doubled. This month, it broke the all-time record from 1977, the year before Hershey introduced Reese's Pieces.

Cocoa isn't exactly a staple food. If the price bothers you it's pretty easy to do without. That's not the same for other types of food that have seen price increases.

I'm cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, so it is kind of a big deal.

That might explain why the Reese's hearts have gotten comically small. They're like 3.5 cm long. It got hit hard by the Shrinkflation Ray®.
