Fake sentiment from Starbuck$

[–] jopepa 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Since it’s hand drawn I’d bet that a manager is sick of that one regular making the new kid cry all the time. Otherwise, I agree, corporate virtue signaling is gross.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Pretty sure the managers were instructed to create these

Holy tracking codes, Batman.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Are there tracking codes? I thought I removed them? The rest is the image search code... please point out if that isn't the case here

[–] jopepa -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't use or know bing, and that link loads like a great white nothing. So I guess I'll take your word for it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's just an image search with the full URL included, but whatever

[–] jopepa 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just saying the link didn’t work on my phone or pc, but whatever

[–] cdf12345 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah I can’t see anything either

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Weird, it works even if I choose a random VPN and private browser, it is a reverse image search showing many of those "hand drawn" starbuck$ signs with the exact same text from the last few years

"Be kind while we fight against your rights to organize!"

[–] x4740N 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This would be great if wasn't a subtle ad for Starbucks

The idea is to implant the idea of Starbucks in your mind by having the logo there so when you think of coffee you are more likely to think of Starbucks

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

100% the Lemmy response I expected.

[–] jettrscga 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

What a weird response. This is literally how marketing works.

Are you suggesting that Starbucks gives a single fuck beyond trying to post quotes that might go viral with their logo directly next to them? Why else would they have their logo right there?

I've been noticing a trend of defensiveness when people get called out for astroturfing and I can't tell if you're defensive because you know what you're doing, or because you don't want to acknowledge that you're accidentally doing it.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

This has no affect on whether I’m going to get Starbucks or not. Maybe I’m just an exception to this weird fucking subliminal message bullshit everybody cries about on here. All my response is in reference to is knowing what everybody is going to say before they even say it on here.

When I see this, I think some 17-year-old barista wrote it out and it doesn’t go beyond that. regardless, I won’t be buying Starbucks anytime soon.

In response to your edit: I wasn’t being defensive. I was stating a fact. I simply don’t care about branding in any regard. If this makes you buy Starbucks, I’m sure you were going to buy it anyway lol. It’s just funny on here that any brand being anywhere sends people into a fit.

[–] jettrscga 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You've misunderstood marketing at a fundamental level if you think your decision not to get Starbucks immediately is at all relevant.

The intent is to impact your subconscious with a certain positive perception of the brand. You don't have a choice in it, that's why it's subconscious. Just seeing the brand at all increases the likelihood that more people will consider the brand in the future.

And it doesn't have to be you. It's a statistics game of X people see it so Y% are more likely to choose Starbucks.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ll blur it out next time. Maybe I’ll put a Lemmy logo on there.

[–] jettrscga 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sorry for coming off aggressive when I'm sure you weren't intending to post an ad.

I'd just like to avoid Lemmy ending up like Reddit where every other post is driven by a company's social media coordinator.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

No problem, I agree.

[–] Donjuanme 12 points 1 year ago

Be kind to each other, you're all under the same boot. Pay no attention to the 5 toes of corporations keeping you all there

Isn't there some degree of slavery in the coffee bean industry?

[–] littlebluespark 4 points 1 year ago

Isn't there some degree of slavery in ~~the coffee bean industry~~ everything?!

FTFY, and yes. There is no such thing as ethical consumerism. Someone somewhere is living an absolutely horrifically shit life to enable each and every one of our modern marvels. Impoverished, exploited, all but ignored masses are the foundational labor at the root of all of it. What are you doing about it? Likely as much as any of the other billions of us in the middle. Oh, and the sun's going to implode and engulf the entire system in life-quenching nuclear fire in a few billion years. So, there's that, too

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

More than just some, most brands pay a pittance of the price of beans to their suppliers.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’m sure there is. There is in practically everything we buy.

To subliminally make you think about Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Wow, effective

[–] Everythingispenguins 3 points 1 year ago

Clearly for more Arrr

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Why haven't I seen that lazer-beam-crab picture posted as a response to this yet?

[–] EdibleFriend 2 points 1 year ago

On the other hand you could make the note and, in the end, don't we all want to be remembered?
