Theres few people in gaming whose word id believe less than his.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Oh, I believe him. I just seriously doubt that it is a good idea.

[–] JustAManOnAToilet 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I remember his excitement over his revolutionary idea "you don't have any control over the dog in this one" - which was just worse in every way.

There is somewhat similar game, where you do not have direct control of your units at all. And it is RTS. It's name is Majesty. And especially the first game is absolutely fantastic!

What's with game designers going "Wouldn't it be cool if you couldn't control- ?"

No, it's never cool. I'm playing a game. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be better if I can control it.

Nah, it’s an incredible idea, the actual execution just won’t turn out even close to the potential or promise.

Science-based dragon MMO

I met Peter at E3 one year before the release of Black and White two. He offered to give us (then two kids) a pre build copy of the game before it even came out. His secretary ripped it out of our hands on the way out the door and gave us some lame swag instead.

Guy has always had his head in the clouds. Love his games though.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Love the idea that his secretary/assistant was just babysitting him and stopping him from doing monumentally stupid (corporately speaking) stuff without thinking.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

That's exactly what was happening.

Holy shit. From the Wikipedia entry on Peter Molyneux: Following the failure of his first game, The Entrepreneur:

"...Molyneux retreated from game design, and started Taurus Impex Limited—a company that exported baked beans to the Middle East—with his business partner Les Edgar."

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh shit, don't let Lemmy know about that.

The pieces are all falling into place... The conspiracy has become clearer...

[–] chazwhiz 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

So my first day on the Lenny, guessing there’s a meme here?

[–] simple 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yup, I don't know what prompted it but a few days ago people started a short trend where they kept spamming memes about beans. I think people have had their fill, though.

Oh dear, he's back to his old ways of hyping things 😕

[–] TheManIsInsane 7 points 2 years ago

And I'm unironically so excited to see it all fall through, as usual. It'll be like nostalgia bursting into the present through a wall like the Kool Aid man.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm still waiting for Godus to come out of early access with all the great features and promises kept!

Any day now.

Urgh. He's seriously trying make a comeback after Godus? You'd think he'd have thrown the towel in and retired.

[–] Strangle 10 points 2 years ago

Oh boy, here we go again!

[–] FeEngage 9 points 2 years ago

Oh god hes escaped the Public Relations Dungeon again!

[–] Poppa_Mo 8 points 2 years ago

Deja vu.

This is his favorite line to regurgitate.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

Ah shit, here we go again.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

So... blockchain, NFT, Live Service, Microtransaction FPS with MMO style grind, and maybe it's in a fantasy setting for some reason, with unlockable space ships that you can only buy with real life cash, Star Citizen style?

Oh, and there's no gameplay ever released, but you can keep buying skins and other microtransactions.

Then it shuts down with no refunds 5 years later, and all your purchases go poof, and the only "gameplay" released is one slow FPS level with a backwards flying dragon and some generic terrorists.

A stable frame rate? Graphics as advertised?

[–] Madbrad200 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

you know what, even though we all know he exaggerates I can't help but feel a deep love for all of his games. I'm excited to see what he's up-to.

[–] ThePantser 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Exactly he over promisis but still makes a good game. I would love a new B&W with ray tracing and generative AI for things the villagers do.

Haven't we been here before? Which Fable was it that he tried pulling this same thing but it wound up being a whole lot of nothing?

He should have retired after Black & White.

[–] inclementimmigrant 4 points 2 years ago

Yeah, his history of over promising and hype that has led to disappointment more often than not less me to not trust a single thing this legendary developer says.

[–] valeen 4 points 2 years ago

Always good to hear your old favorites again. He's done some great things, but it feels like investors just cart him out to make unsubstantiated claims in the last 20 years and this is coming from someone that was there for populous and dungeon keeper (I still have the original that I bought).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Sure Peter, whatever you say, Peter... 🙄

[–] LocutusOfBeetleBorg 3 points 2 years ago

Hmmm, I could swear I've heard this one before.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

He has made great games, but as others have said he is a proffesional bullshitter.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Lets give him a chance if its shit dont buy it I would love some fresh games

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I’m quite enjoying Godus on iOS. That’s one of his, right?
