It’s an audacious plan funded largely by one wealthy businessman — Brian Heywood of Redmond — who has loaned or donated nearly $6 million to gather signatures. The citizen sponsor for the initiatives is state Rep. Jim Walsh (R-Aberdeen), who is also chairman of the Washington State Republican Party.
Classic.
Let’s Go Washington has turned in signature petitions for five of the six proposals ahead of the Dec. 29 deadline:
- I-2117 to repeal the Climate Commitment Act.
- I-2109 to roll back the tax on capital gains.
- I-2111 to ban state and local governments from imposing taxes on income.
- I-2113 to loosen some restrictions on when law enforcement officers can engage in vehicle pursuits.
- I-2081 to let parents of public-school children review student records, including disciplinary and health information and curricula, and to allow parents to opt children out of sex education.
So, basically this rich fuck wants to roll back:
- Our climate change act, likely because it makes companies (including his) actually have to give a shit about their emissions (money).
- He wants to roll back the capital gains tax that only the top earners in the state have to pay (him and his money).
- He wants to pass a ban on localities taxing residents (again, him and his money because cities like Seattle have their own higher taxes for top earners)
- He wants to allow the police to once again cause more danger by chasing people at high speeds (I'm sure the police union has nothing to do with this)
- He wants kids to not get sex education if their parents don't want to accept that their children will eventually grow up and have sex (probably in order to provide more bodies in the exploitation machine that he runs)
Seems like a piece of shit, hopefully most don't make it past the legislature. If they do, I hope that Washington continues to be smart enough to see this guy's true intentions.
That leaves ballot measures as one of the last potential places for Republicans to exercise power.

A businessman and member of the LDS church, Heywood said he fled California in 2010 — and moved his 40 employees up to Washington with him — after that state got too progressive for his tastes.

“Washington has sort of had a reputation of being, even though it’s got lefty Seattle, it was more a libertarian lefty-ism,” he added. “And then I just watched it all happen again here, right?”
Fine, I'll say it: Washington has always been more leftist than CA, and it's not just Seattle. It's pretty much anywhere that has actual population. Tacoma, Everett, Bremerton, Spokane, Bellevue, Bellingham. Even the more rural counties are more left than many of the "left" places in CA.
