For owls that are superb.

If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Barn Owls in a clock tower near ~~Paris, TX.~~ somewhere. (Tried to find where the tower was, and saw this thing has been reposted so many times I can't tell you where it's actually from.)

Some notable facts from All About Birds

  • Up to 46 different races of the Barn Owl have been described worldwide. The North American form is the largest, weighing more than twice as much as the smallest race from the Galapagos Islands.

  • Barn Owl females are somewhat showier than males. She has a more reddish and more heavily spotted chest. The spots may indicate the quality of the female. Heavily spotted females get fewer parasitic flies and may be more resistant to parasites and diseases. The spots may also stimulate the male to help more at the nest. In an experiment where some females’ spots were removed, their mates fed their nestlings less often than for females whose spots were left alone.

I had found this one first, but then I saw the Barn Owl that was much closer to the original.

Okay this one is fucking great tho. I reckon I prefer it, but agree that yes the other one is strikingly similar to the original

I'm glad I reposted it then. I posted it first, but swapped it for the other.

I just want them so I can cuddle that cuteness! Something tells me cuddling an owl is even harder than cuddling a cat though.

Cats seem a lot cuddlier. Birds are mostly just air, like a balloon in a coat.

A cat is mostly cat. They're both warm and fuzzy, and there's more ways to hold them without either of you getting hurt.

Plus a cat is probably better smelling. Cats like hygiene. Owls have no sense of smell and eat skunks and such.

Thank you for talking sense in to me lol. The owls are just so adorable though!

They are, and I still want to touch one even if they are stinky windbags! 😆

I've held chickens a few times and I just feel like I'd holding something made of out paper mache that is way too crushable and doesn't want to be held anyway and is smothered in salmonella. I'd think the owl would have to be similar.

It was a close one and I was so surprised it got knocked out early! I'm excited to see who it will go up against next!

Barn is my personal fave. I dunno why, I've just always found their face so cool.

Perhaps because Wan Shi Tong in Avatar: TLA has a similar face?

They are just so other worldly. I can't think of any other animal with a face like that. You can't help but have it grab your attention.

Is it already five 'owl clock?

[–] anon6789 2 points 11 months ago

You now have me imagining a Cuckoo clock, but with a Barn Owl ringing out the hours with its beautiful voice! 🤣
