That's a rather rose-colored view of the game. One thing is certainly true about Spore: It's absolutely unique in its genre and we haven't really seen the like since.
But it certainly had its flaws when it came out. The main one being that the further into the game you got, the more lackluster it felt. With the space exploration endgame feeling rather empty and basically the same every playthrough, with how you developed your creature having very little impact.
There was also the whole DRM controversy which everyone complained about. The game had to be activated via EAs online servers and you could only activate it five times total. And changing your PCs hardware was seen as a new PC which needed a new activation

We got a very different game then what Will Wright was originally showing in 2005 anyway, which looked way more interesting of a direction than the actual game.

But I'm done with EA since Origin, which was the last straw of bullshit I could take.

Thank bloody fuck the game is on GOG now.

Yeah I played it when I was a kid and even then I was disappointed in it after having followed development for a while. The game that came out is pretty cool but it could have been so so much better.

100% The first two stages are awesome.

The rest feels absolutely tacked on so they could say it went all the way into the future.

Forgot Spore 2.

I want the original groundbreaking Spore Will Wright showed us before EA EA’d it into a kiddy tech demo.

Surely it's ripe for a spiritual successor, especially riding the wave of AI. I have my eye on a couple of candidates...

There's also Thrive
(which is open-source)

I couldn't get into Niche's loop at all for some reason.

Who out there is asking for civilization 7? They just got done with the DLCs like half a year ago

I am.

And something with a unique art style. Civ 6's art style is disappointing.

I look forward to Ara: History Untold. Seems to be the most promising 4X of this type.

Millenia seems very promising as well with all the alternate history paths you can take.

I really can't afford Paradox titles. Already tried with Cities Skylines and Stellaris and failed miserably. It's just too much.

So did Humankind😖

Very much agreed there. I still play Civ V to this day largely because I couldn't stand the art style of VI. Here's hoping VII tries something different.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

I loved civ6's style, but I want something fresh and independent

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

What's wrong with it? I loved how the map had hand-drawn maps for fog of war.

That was the only appealing thing. The cartoon look and oversized single units not so much. It looked like a mobile game for little children.

And compare menus, dialog boxes etc. CiV has art deco elements while VI is just plain and basic.

Will it have a hard drive killing root kit like the original?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

if its worth its weight in bytes it'd damned better well

[–] meliaesc 3 points 6 months ago

Black and White first.

Just bought Spore for the first time. It's a banger!
