Chickens are birds, aren't they? Just like how penguins are birds, and unlike penguins they can actually fly short distances.

We can probably just use process of elimination... They don't have live babies or nurse their young, so not mammals... They're warm blooded so not reptiles, amphibians, or fish... I think it's self evident that they aren't slime, mold, bacteria, or a virus... So, we're left with birds
The ability to fly does not make a bird. Birds are actually a pretty easy group to identify. Does it look like a bird? Great! It's a bird!
Except for bats.

Bats: have ears, don't have beak, have skin wings, have claws on their wings.
The problem is that chickens and penguins don't actually look like birds lol
