I was a loyal RIF user, and unfortunately it doesn't look like that's getting a lemmy version. I'll try any new lemmy app that pops up, but I think there's a good chance i stick with jerboa.
I bought RIF years ago, for context, and so far I'm liking Liftoff over Jerboa. For one it's getting more frequent updates, but overall of the two Liftoff feels closer to what I'm used to interface-wise.
That said they're both good apps.
I like the Liftoff interface, but its content density is poor, and its arbitrary choice of federation source magically prevents me from commenting on the majority of posts, not to mention the duplicate posts. Not to mention the duplicate posts. Not to mention the duplicate posts. Not to mention the duplicate posts.
I worry that the RIF dev is backing the wrong horse. They decided to build an app for Squabbles or something.
They're using Tildes and Lemmy. Maybe they like Tildes more or think it has more of a need for another app than Lemmy does. Not a competition, really.
tildes is sorely lacking in the mobile app space so it's only fair
Tildes
I'm liking Jerboa more than I initially did. It need improvements of course but things will eventually come along. What all third party apps desperately need is adding functions for moderators. Everytime I have to log in to the browser version of my instance just to pin or delete spam comments. Not very convenient.
Same. It's a huge learning curve for me to use any of these with all the swiping.
Have you tried Summit? The swiping to get the sidebars is an adjustment for me coming from RIF but I feel it has the best look and feature set. I also like Thunder, but it's lacking some features of the other apps.
I second Liftoff as a once RIF user
Having extensively used LiftOff, Jerboa, Connect, and Wefwef, Thunder is my RIF replacement. I think it's overlooked because it's not on the store. LiftOff is a decent second option, so I'm still keeping an eye on it, but itdoesn't feel like "home".
Hadn't heard of Thunder yet. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for suggesting!
Not the person you replied to but I really like thunder. It feels a little earlier in development (like I dont think it has a way to go view unread replies and stuff yet) but the UI feels super promising
Same. But I know those things take time. So I'm not writing anything off yet. I just want to support Devs. I got few apps installed, playing around with them and see which one I'll eventually stick to.
