Yahoo Finance has an unlocked article from Reuters.

This is the article that made Elon Musk angry today ("Reuters is lying (again)" post on Twitter). So we know its real.

I want an EV with manual transmission and an instrument cluster.

Right?? Just replace the engine. I don't need a 27" display in my car.

Manual transmission makes no sense for EVs because the motors have a flat linear torque curve, very different from internal combustion engines.

On some designs you may not even need any transmission or gearbox.

A lot of the more economical EVs or PHEVs run out of torque at higher RPMs.

2-gears probably will be the sweet spot in the far future. Or current future if you consider Honda Accords hybrid design. (EV geared for low speed + ICE on high speed gear only. So two years but weird).

0-30mph is great for all EVs, but 30-60mph is harder in practice. So much so that Porche Tycan has a gear shift despite being 100% EV.

I expect more cars to cheat two gears in as more economical designs proliferate.
