I tried Element and FluffyChat. My impression of Matrix from an end user perspective isn't great tbh. I found it so slow and hard to use. Searching for a simple word took ages to bring up results. Last time I used it video calls still went through Jitsi and looked terrible. It also didn't ring on my family's phones so we had to drop Matrix for Signal. And it's not just me either, like for example the project lead for Asahi Linux has been having many problems with Matrix. GrapheneOS even had their chat rooms all break like 3 times from Matrix bugs. It was the reason why they started bridging to a Discord server and I hate to admit it but damn Discord is actually so much better to use.
