Depending on how quick you caught the shingles, the Aciclovir could in theory stop the pain in it's tracks.
I had shingles and caught it (started antivirals) just as the blisters began to form. Had a week of severe sunlight sensitivity, (I had a sunburn in 30 seconds, which was weird), but the pain (which I placed for the week prior as a solid 10/10) packed up and left day 2 of treatment.
Pain management for shingles is something that you really should discuss with a Dr, or at the least, a pharmacist, as some of the relief methods are by prescription.
