IMHO, it's a horrible hack that is just broken. It's obscure and we need to rewrite it because it has a bad structure. ^X^Cquit^[ESC][ESC]^C

ESC +
:q!ESC to enter normal mode (if you're in a different mode like insert) : (colon) to enter commands q to quit ! (or a) to use the quit command withiut keeping any changes
He's speaking the language of the gods..
ESC + (shift) ZZ is faster and also saves your changes!
