Master and Commander is such a great movie, and i think this is Russell Crowe's best scene. He absolutely nails the drunk captain trying to hold himself together to trll his favorite joke and then cracks right at the end.

But if you haven't seen the movie, absolutely watch it. The whole film is absolutely brilliant.

If you liked the movie, definitely read the books. The movie is great - the books are on a whole other level. Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian.

Didn't dig the books so much, but I tried. And don't let my poor opinion dissuade anyone! I am in the minority by a long shot. Everyone else loves them.

Fun fact the HMS Surprise in the movie was a real, seaworthy sailboat created for the movie. I think its berth is somewhere in socal now.

Ah correction: it was built in Canada and purchased by 20th Century Fox and heavily modified for the movie.

What a wild ride of a movie! Exciting and thoughtful, great acting and direction, beautiful scenery and a blasting sound track.
