/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

"Dragostea Din Tei" (pronounced [ˈdraɡoste̯a din ˈtej] ⓘ; official English title: "Words of Love",[2][3] also informally known as "Maya Hi" and "Numa Numa") is a song by Moldovan pop group O-Zone, released as the second single from their third studio album, DiscO-Zone (2004). The song's title is Romanian for "Love from the linden tree".

Excuse me Europe, but I have to ask: What the fuck?

Excuse ME! You weren't aware of it?

This is, what made this track to an everlasting Internet meme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JpMPAaQSyQ

Man, I miss having fun on the internet without the fear of millions of people bullying/doxxing me or a corporation using my likeness to spread viral marketing/train their shitty AI.

I always thought Numa Numa guy looks like he's having a lot of fun

It's weird. I think half of the people who watched it were like you (and me) and the other half were like, "ha ha fat guy."

But then I think most of the ridicule of that Star Wars kid, who ended up having serious psychological issues stemming from it, was because he was fat too.

I know the song. I didn't know anything about the weirdness behind it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't get it, what's so weird about it?

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 10 months ago (3 children)

For one thing, "Love from the Linden Tree" is a weird name for a song. For another, the band is Moldovan, but the song's name is in Romanian.

Languages in Europe do not stick to national borders per se. History and all that.

Looking it up, seems like Moldova speaks Romanian, so nothing weird about that?

And is that really a "weird" name for a song? Don't forget it's gonna sound awkward since it's a translation, but it seems like a mostly typical name for a song.

The page you linked says

Outdated name for the Romanian language in Moldova

However, I don't know the details, so if Moldova has a different variant or dialect, and the song title doesn't use that, you might have a point.

For one thing, "Love from the Linden Tree" is a weird name for a song.

Especially considering the linden tree's specific smell.

Excuse me Europe, but I have to ask: What the fuck?

Northwestern European here: I had no idea at the time and still don't. I hereby pass this question along to Eastern Europe.
