Pete Carroll is the only reason the Seahawks were relevant this past decade.
I don't dislike Pete Carroll, but his time passed quite a while ago. I'm confident that Paul would have moved off of him 5 years ago if he hadn't passed away.
Pete, as a defensive coach who created one of the greatest NFL defenses to ever grace the gridiron, has consistently produced below average to actually bad defenses since 2018.
The last few years we got flat out coached offensively and defensively by McVay and Shanahan. If you can't see that then whatever, but this was the right move at the right time.
No hate on Pete whatsoever, but nobody stays relevant forever. This team has too much young talent, and it needs a hungrier coaching staff to take advantage of that.
He's also lost some of the best defensive coaches over the last little while. If you look at the tree of defensive coaches from Carroll it's pretty astounding.
I was never a fan of Clint Hurt, Sean Desai hasn't impressed in Philly, and Ken Norton Jr. wasn't very good either. The two really stand out Seahawks DC's were Dan Quinn and Kris Richard, and Dan Quinn may still end up back in Seattle.
Below average is underselling some of those atrocities!
