That decision doesn't come from the devs.
Yes, and they're the ones heeding it.

You think they're going to strike and refuse? This is their last stand? They throw away their job because they will die on this hill?
nah, i wanted some spine on people.
devs aint gonna starve if they refuse a crappy job for another one.
that applies to many things, not just games btw.
You probably do some things for your job you aren't stoked about, if you have a job.
The other job will be just as crappy. Decent dev shops are few and far between. We get paid semi-decently to sell our souls, just as people in other jobs don't even get paid properly to do the same.
I don't think you even understand how work actually gets done, let alone how development works.
Yeah I for one would sooner let my child starve to death than deprive you of your fancy pixels
