Exclusives are the opposite of competition, though.

Maybe from your point of view, but exclusives move consoles. If someone's deciding between a PS5 and an Xbox Series X it's likely the exclusives that will make them choose one or the other. Part of the reason Xbox is far behind is because they just don't have many good exclusives.

Yes, anticompetitive behavior is profitable for trillion dollar companies and bad for consumers. You sound like a "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" when you commiserate with corporations screwing people for profit.

I'm literally just stating information, don't shoot the messenger...

Right, but my point is that good exclusives mean people buy both, not switch over or choose only one. The 360 era was like this where many had two consoles instead of only one.

Most people don't have money for both, so it usually does mean choosing one or the other for the average consumer.

I disagree. They're very expensive systems to be sure, but the real reason people don't have both is because, as is my point, one system just isn't very good in terms of exclusives. If the exclusives were better you would see people buying both, that's the whole issue and point.

While there are plenty of people who don't have the budget for both machines, there are plenty of people who do, plenty enough to sustain a console. Everything costs money, but that doesn't mean there's no such things as monopolies just because everything is competing for your money.
