A place to share practical, durable and quality made products that are made to last, with an emphasis on upcycled and sustainable products!

Guidelines:

Things that are well-made and durable (even if they won't last a lifetime) are A-Okay!

Unlike that other BIFL place, Home-made and DIY items are encouraged here, as long as some form of instruction is included in the body of the post.

Videos links are not allowed as post titles, but you may use them in a text post.

A limited amount of self-promotion is accepted, IF the item you are selling aligns with this criteria:

  1. The item must be made with sustainable or recycled materials.
  2. If electronic in some way, the item must be open-source.
  3. The item must be user-serviceable (if applicable).
  4. You cannot be a large corporation.
  5. The post must be clearly marked with a [Self Promotion] tag in your title.

So I bought myself a Victorinox Tinker Deluxe SAK, after my friend told me he's been using his SAK for the last 15 years. I'm into small tinkering work, urban partisan activity and like to be prepared.

I'm not sure if it's gonna be a life-long purchase, but from what I've seen, it's quite durable. Will need maintenance and correct usage, though.

If it is only an occasional quick tool to do something they indeed basically last forever. I think I had mine for 25 years or so now. Mostly switched to a Leatherman though as the pliers in those are often very helpful.

I've been planning to get another leatherman once my funds recover from becoming a homeowner. We have one in our car emergency kit, but I think I'm finally adult enough to treat myself to either one of the s30v or 154cm bladed ones

This is absolutely a decision based on aesthetics over functionality, but I just got myself a Signal. (Text references the bureau of sabotage from Frank Herbert's ConSentiency novels)

I'd love a Signal, but it's so god damn expensive where I live. It's literally 1/2 of my monthly rent.

Holy shit it's beautiful.

Cross-posting is actually pretty easy on Lemmy! (Won't work on specific comments, but it's easy to cross-post the whole thread)

i use jerboa and thunder. i can't see the cross-post option in either.

are you on a desk/lap-top+browser? Would be nice to learn how to cp

i tried "share post". it seems to work 🤷

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

I got a Skeletool, but I don't think this specific model is the best.

[–] mariom 2 points 1 year ago

Pretty basic, but powerful enough. I also have skeletool + bit kit. I'm using it when I do not need bigger tools - as it's easier to reach and do something quick.

I have it in my pocket for like 12 years. And style cs as keyfob - just because it was sold in a bundle with skeletool and price was the same or almost the same (like 2-3$ difference) as price of skeletool only when I was buying it.

Been thinking about buying something else, looking at different options for longer time, still didn't make my choice.

It's the one I wanted to buy, honestly.
