I don't get it

Edit: I guess petroglyphs are a thing (hieroglyphs was the term I was thinking of) so the joke makes sense

It was on my mind because I just saw some petroglyphs on Saturday. Roche-A-Cri State Park in Wisconsin has a rockface with caring from sometime before 900 AD. For North America that is quite old.
