Thought this was an interesting question and I’m sure there’s lots of suggestions out there.

Expanse ended on a good point. We would probably need at least 2 seasons to finish up the final trilogy. If one extra season would be all we got, I'd not want it tbh.

They could finish the series with a final season if you cut out the politics after the time jump. Really just take the last book and maybe a few parts from 7 and 8 and you could make a complete story.

It could be done some way I'm sure, but I'm not sure if it would be as good as it could. We saw what a rushed final season can do to a show with GoT (extreme example, I know).

I'm still comfused why they included the Weird Dogs story though, it left the show more open ended for apparently no good reason.

Yeah, including the dogs was unfortunate if they knew they were going to cancel the series. At least we didn't get a Proto-Amos in the TV show. That would have been real hard to walk away from.
