I thought taste meant personal preference or personal style, not only good or bad according some metric ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

It should do, but people often use "no taste" to say that someone's preferences or style are bad. Or possibly to imply that they are ignorant and therefore have no ability to form a judgement about what is good or bad, and that their preferences can therefor be dismissed.
