Personally, I think that it would be beneficial to consolidate as much as possible in one place. 5 communities with 10 people will quickly die out, 1 community with 50 is a good start for something long-term.
Agreed, being spread out isn't the best way forward. I'm subscribed to this one and the one at kbin.social at the moment, waiting to see which one takes off the most.
I'm not sure which software is better. Lemmy is a bit older, so maybe more mature. But I've experienced problems with both. For instance: I can't see all responses to this post from my own instance, while I've seen more answers directly on lemmy.world.
I don't have the explanation, but at least I can confirm that this behavior is not specific to /c/Belgium, and it can be the other way around. I was browsing a community hosted on a remote instance. When browsing from lemmy.world, I could see several posts, from lemmy.world users, which were not visible on the community when browsed from the remote instance hosting that community. And those posts hadn't been removed on the remote instance after publication ; they only got published on lemmy.world's copy but not on the instance hosting that community.
Same here, both are good options anyway.
Agree!
Next Saturday, July 1st, a new Reddit migration wave could happen when the API policy is activated without significant changes.
It would be great if we could give r/Belgium visitors a clear target in the Fediverse to move to.
@[email protected] is the best candidate now IMO, as it has multiple moderators assigned already and more activity than @Belgium.
I've registered on Kbin myself, but Kbin doesn't have a mobile app yet, while Lemmy does (https://join-lemmy.org/apps/).
Therefore, I think we should have the "official" community on Lemmy (so Reddit users can visit the community through an app).
Kbin users can see the Lemmy posts through federation.
I don't know if we have any of the original r/Belgium mods here, but having @belgium mentioned under "Official" on https://sub.rehab/?searchTerm=belgium (endorsement of the original mods is needed) would be a great start. Or at least under spin-offs.
Please upvote or comment if you agree with me.
PS. @Mysteriarch You are the moderator of @Belgium? Maybe you can redirect users to this server instead?
If the moderators of /r/Belgium decide to move here we can ofcourse give them a mod spot too.
On the [email protected] there is not much going on and this community is already linked there as a related magazine. I think the people on kbin will find their way.
Since the /r/belgium subreddit is now private - I reached out to them. Sent a message about what we wanted to do here and that they're welcome to join here and that a mod status is open too.
Since I see there is interest here in getting some kind of interaction going, I can join the /r/belgium discord later and try to talk to someone.
In the end it's up to them if they want to do their own thing that's fine too ofcourse.
Edit: I reached out to the /r/belgium admins on their discord channel and pointed them to this thread too.
So I made an account, so I'm at least here as a user
I reached out to the /r/belgium mods and had a talk with Dakracs on their discord channel. He's also talking to other mods of /r/belgium and we'll see from there. The /r/belgium sub is closed currently but maybe they are willing to link to us here. All still open for discussion but we had a good first talk.
So, welcome Dakracs!
Great job!
Welcome!
Welcome! What's the mood with the other r/belgium mods & users? You reckon there are some that are willing to make a switch?
So far the answers I received were that they were not that interested in Lemmy right now. Not sure if that was only in a modding sense or also a user sense.
Can't speak for the users, I linked this community so we'll see how much influx there is.
How did you link it? The old sub is still set to private seemingly. If you want to get people over, it might help to open it up with no new posts and just a reference to here. Giving their opinion in the daily chat I just made is what will drive many people to create an account. The eternal war between good (people who say curryworst) and the rotten evil(people who say frikandel) will continue in perpetuity.
I'm not a moderator on kbin.social, no. I have an account like many to look for another community. We could make a posts there to refer people to this instance of course.
Not entirely sure if lemmy.world is the best candidate, because the instance is a bit too large to my liking and has been defederated by some instances. But I also recognize that many other users would find the size reassuring, so I won't object.
I did hear that the mods of r/belgium made a Discord channel (shudder) for the blackout, someone could also promote the lemmy instance there. I don't really use Discord so I'll leave that up to others.
I also don't know any r/belgium mods personally, but would be cool to have them at least active as users here. Again, feel free to reach out to those you know and get them involved.
Sorry, my misunderstanding!
Same here.
Me neither.
If you're talking about the defederation from beehaw - that's unfortunate but out of our control. There are still talks between the beehaw and lemmy.world admins though. I'm sure it will all be resolved at some point.
I think we should consolidate. Can someone reach out to the mods of the different communities? Is there a way to merge communities between worlds?
