Surely some are people, there's still developments at reddit that would cause further exodus. Though it is a huge jump.

At least some are definitely bots. lemmy.world had to close registrations for a bit today because of all the spam bot accounts.

I'm unsure. The number of users jumped tremendously, but the number of active users increased in a smoothly continuous manner. So did a whole lot of people sign up but not actually post or comment on anything? The number of Lemmy posts actually declined slightly that day.

Something's weird here.

Wasn't there a post from @Ruud saying there was a heap of bot/spam registrations he had to deal with yesterday?

Maybe the data that underpins the chart is registration attempts?
