Why exactly is that not a feature that can be expanded to every currently supported iPhone?
It requires titanium to function properly.
Their reinvention of titanium is really going to progress technology.
Especially since you can already check it in the data logs on older phones.

The implication that having a cycle count on your phone is going to drive upgrades is bizarre.
"Hey, what made you decide to get the new iPhone?"
"It has battery cycle counts!"
I can see it already.
Conversely, I could see people upgrading because their battery cycle count is high , making them feel like the performance is degrading.
May it be like miles in used cars? You'd see a big number and you'd be more likely to buy new instead. Or replace a battery if it even comes to that.
The tech just wasn't there yet ;)
