Hm, I guess I can kinda see that.

My main issue I have is that it's a guy who has a plan...who then executes that plan. And...everything goes according to plan

Not exactly. First off, he didn't catch the Mauler twins like he expected, since he was interrupted by the emergency call. This means the GDA had to catch them, which might lead to trouble if they find out that Robot broke them out of prison.

Second, he didn't expect blowback from the team, which he got. It wasn't focused on much due to the severity of the surrounding situation, but I'm sure this will be addressed in season 2.

and he doesn't have any future plans.

None that you know of right now, because there wasn't time to set anything up once his initial plan climaxed. We also don't know of any plans by the rest of the Guardians, and that's okay, because the end of the season wasn't focused on them!
