Hear me out.

She takes in data. She formulates a theory as to what the data means, then she tests it in real world conditions. Albeit she also has to contend with the perfect killing machine, but at the base level, all I can see is the scientific method. Thoughts?

Great movie. Dan Trachtenberg is the man.

That said, just because you practice the scientific method does not mean you are a scientist. Amber Midthunder's character uses logical deduction to understand and defeat her opponent, but is unaware of the scientific method, and is not doing it for the sake of research, either. To claim someone is a scientist, I believe, would require one or generally both.
