The one thing in his favor is that he was already a pocket passing QB and it's his front foot when throwing, so the losses you usually think of when it comes to an achilles injury aren't as significant. But he is 40 years old, so any significant injury at that age is going to be a possible career ender.
It absolutely will affect his ability to scramble, and that was a huge part of his game. He would constantly roll out of the pocket or take off if he needed to or had an open lane to run. Sucks man. He was fun to watch.
You're thinking of Rodgers from several years ago. Coming from a Packers fan, he hasn't done those things in several years. He's been largely a pocket passer for 4 or 5 years.
