I've enjoyed them. Something about the writing in this newest batch makes it seem more like the old episodes. I think it's the pacing and the lack of cringy cutaways. No classics yet, even in the vein of the (original) time machine episode or the body switching one from the last batch, but we've got 3 more to go on this season, then 10 more dropping after that, so plenty of time.
I will say Billy West is sounding old, which is fair because he is old. But fry seems to have taken up smoking since we last saw him
While I completely agree with this sentiment, the content of the episodes already feels dated. Someone on another post said it feels like the episodes were written 3-5 years ago and I'm inclined to agree.
Bitcoin, vaccines, cancel culture. It just seems...off? Still very much enjoying this season though.
More topical references would help if there was a strong commentary aspect to Futurama, but it's never been that kind of show.
The simplest explanation is jokes are the bread and butter of a comedy and they just aren't that great in Hulurama. Having rewatched it recently, Foxurama also leaned heavily on the plot of individual episodes, but so far the plots feel like retreads or just not particularly interesting.
Which now that I think about it, all of this can be said about The Simpsons.
It's had it's ups and downs so far, but man, those downs have been low in my opinion. I'm trying to keep a good outlook going into each episode, but so far it's just been... Average. Not saying each episode of every previous season is a unique, golden nugget to be cherished, but I really can't think of another one that was as consistently just "meh" to "a couple chuckles".
Hell, I'll be honest, I will happily watch that gender-swap episode a thousand times in a row before I ever sit down to watch the Amy/Kif episode again.
Unless it was purely the Kif parts. They carried that episode, both in humor and giving my poor ears a chance to stop bleeding.
I enjoyed the first episode but it's been downhill since. For me, anyway.
Just blame it on his binge in episode 1.
