The cling film bit works on ovens too. Only thing I would say is that if the enamel of the stove is cracked or chipped, then ammonia will make a bad situation worse.

My stove top is glass with the enamel coated metal (that's what I think they are) drip trays. That kitchen would have reeked of ammonia. Very powerful shit.
