I'm looking to buy an iPhone 15 when it comes out. For those that also have a Pixel, what are some things that each phone does completely better than the other?

I was thinking of using the iPhone as a phone first, and having the Pixel as just a Personal Smart Device that I can use to do sideloading, emulation, file organizing, and other productivity and entertainment stuff, maybe even social media like having Mastadon and Lemmy there, maybe Signal too.

Whereas I'll have the iPhone for calling, texting, streaming, CarPlay, News, and Apple Watch stuff.

What are some other things I can segment?

(There's a lot of content and apps available on both, but I'm wanting to know if there's anything that's visibly or marginally better on either device that you've noticed)

How easy is it to transfer a file from one device to the other? For example, let's say you had to transfer photos, a pdf, an epub, and a video file. How easy is that?

And then do you think it's going to be much easier when USB-C comes out so I can use a flash drive to do all the work?

Do you use Apple News at all?

Do you carry both on your person or does one go in the bag.

I think that covers most of my curiosities.

Edit: Also thanks for answering politely!

(Not that person)

1 File transfers can be done via apps like localsend, pairdrop/snapdrop (selfhosted, I wouldn't use the public servers), or simply putting files on a shared server, etc.

2 This is impossible to correctly answer until the new phones are actually out. Reason being we don't know the restrictions (or hopefully not) that Apple will arbitrarily apply to the port. The iPad, for what it's worth, can easily mount USB C drives and other accessories, so, hopefully Apple continues in that vein of sanity

3 no

4 my iPhone is my actual phone phone and the pixel is wifi only.

  1. I use localsend. Can send between my Android, iPhone, and Desktop easily. I also have a "Copy Paste" telegram group. When I send something to the group, it appears on all my devices. I kind of like this because I have a history of all my links, pics, files, etc and I can just do a search if I ever need to go back and find something. Also, Photosunc is like $6 a year and anytime I take a pic it auto backs it up to my desktop server via SMB.

  2. You can use a flash drive now with thunderbolt to usb-c converter I believe.

  3. I don't use any apple services except for iMessage, Facetime, and Apple Pay (to accept payments). So no iCloud, Apple Music, Apple Care, etc. None of that garbage.

  4. I carry both. I've been doing it so long that when I have one and not the other, I feel naked. 2 phones and my Keys, everywhere I go.... except the gym. I only bring my iPhone then.

  5. Sure no problem. You may be used to reddit. People are a bit nicer over here :)

I've seen USB-C flash drives, do you think those would help too.
