I think they lied when they said that the blackout had not impacted the bottom line, it just makes sense to say that. Admitting that the blackout was working would mean you have to roll back the change and potentially hurts the IPO launch.
Even if it's true that the blackout was ineffective I think the real test for Reddit will be what happens July 1. I for one will not be using Reddit on mobile without RIF, it's what I've been using since 2012. I'll continue to use RIF as long as it's working and I'll also use Reddit on the desktop, but my mobile usage is about the plummet.
I think a lot of people are likely in the same boat, but even if they aren't it won't matter to me.
Nah screw that I’m deleting all my Reddit accounts with Redact and full-assing Lemmy. Lemmy going to need help growing and fuck giving anything to Reddit. Half assing one of these sites won’t do it for me
I'm thinking of doing the same. I was a power user in some niche communities, hopefully I can convince some friends to move over.
yeahp. I've been deleting my reddit accounts with redact and replacing comments with advertisements for lemmy.world. idgaf anymore, and i've got comments from 9 years ago when i first joined reddit. Once comment replacement is done i'm just deleting acc
Make sure to keep doublechecking if your posts are actually gone. A bunch of people are noting that they edited their posts to delete their data but now the posts are back. Reddit seems to be rolling back the content their losing.
I've already stopped using RIF, ever since the blackout. I'm no longer going to visit Reddit daily as I did before. Lemmy is awesome.
RIF was my daily driver for years! I was so sad when this all went down. But it's for the best, lemmy, Mastodon, and peertube is really cool to investigate and explore.
I need to checkout peertube. I keep seeing people mentioning it. Is there a good Android app for it?
I use newpipe. There are others but newpipe lets you subscribe to multiple servers not just peertube instances.
The blackout hasn’t affected their bottom line for two reasons: checks have already been cashed and because there’s been a boost in clicks because of the news sites talking about Reddit.
The long term costs are yet unrealized.
