That's a myth, donating food is a protected act so long as its done in good faith.

"Good Samaritan food donation protection act of 1996"

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not a myth exactly. The good Samaritan is more about liability right? Well, some towns are designating only certain areas that people can give homeless food, in many senses punishing generosity to the poor.

Nah, it's a myth. They just need to be challenged and they'll be gone soon thereafter since donations are generally considered expression.

@Madison420 @VerdantSporeSeasoning

But it costs to hire the lawyer, pay to file and take time off work to appear. And none of those costs will be reimbursed.

That doesn't change the fact that it's legal and you're simply going to court to prove it as such, plus you'll be case law which is pretty neat.

@Madison420

Not everyone has the money to even get a lawyer.

Maybe start thinking about the whole population instead of just the ones who'd think it was "neat" to set precedent.

The aclu would jump on it no issues, it's a slam dunk civil rights issue that's sorta their jams.

Ed: change didn't come without challenge, if you're too concerned about it not working to try it you'll never actually know if it would work. Why give up before you start.
