I really like the myth that Ronnie destroyed the Soviet Union, like Lech Wałęsa And the freaking Pope didn't exist.
I love that Republicans keep trying to get a statue of Reagan in Berlin but no one gives a shit about the “Mr. Gorbechov, Tear down this wall!” speech, which was in English and really aimed at U.S. viewers.
Germany always politely declined to put a statue up for some minor speech so Trump, in his tackiness, put a statue at the US Embassy. Angela Merkel responded by thanking George HW Bush for supporting reunification.
Yeltsin was the assassin that illegally dissolved the USSR though. What did the pope do to the USSR? Tell Gorbachev that god hates him?
John Paul II, the Polish Pope, visited Poland in 1979. It was the first papal visited in the Soviet Union and ended up igniting a workers revolution for independence which inturn broke up the Soviet block.
