I even tried being a good little product and subjected myself to using the official reddit app.

Absolute worst experience with an app I've ever had. Honestly couldn't even use reddit now even if I wanted to.

Not only did I have to deal with ads, but they also gave me posts from subreddits it thought I would be interested in. I had carefully constructed my frontage to be subreddits I was interested in, but now still had essentially ads for OTHER subreddits, hoping of course I would subscribe to them too and then get more ads overall.

Feels very dirty now. Glad to leave. Sucks though. I've been using Reddit for a very long time now.

Yeah, it's Facebook now.

Those posts from subreddits you're not subscribed to will very soon be replaced organic looking advertisements. Along with the advertisement looking advertisements.

Eventually it will just be a place to learn what's new and on sale.

Same. I went back for r/place and to comment a few more "fuck u/spez" in posts, and it's hilarious how bad the app still is. Still slow. Videos randomly won't play. There are even times when all you can do when tapping the video is see a still image of it and can't even get into the post/thread. They just really don't give a fuck about the app except as a vehicle for ads. Smh.

Relay for reddit works. It's what I'm using to browse reddit.

I mean, old.reddit.com exists… for now anyways.
