I think this person is being a little pedantic here. The compare the Enterprise to an iPhone. The scale of a ship the size of the Enterprise almost requires a paneled exterior. It’s neither realistic nor believable for the ship to have a single unified surface. The animated version is intentionally simplified to match the aesthetic of Lower Decks.
