Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Happy work week! Stay safe!

Today’s Ask PHlemmy: How would you describe your sense of humor? Can you give an example?

Extremely dark humor that I have to dial down depending on the audience.

If I'm around my wife, sisters, mom, I can make jokes like the driver of a car that's really bad is maybe a woman. Or if I say that a female referee doesn't have a reason to do that job because COVID gave them plenty of free time in the kitchen to film vlogs... they wouldn't be offended and just playfully slap me in the head because they know me better and fully aware that it's tongue in cheek (and it is). But I wouldn't make that joke around say, a coworker I'm not close with.

That's a tame example, actually. I think my most morbid quips are about death. When Rio Diaz died and the news covered the shuttling of her ashes to different locations, I called it the "Rio Diaz World Tour". I also said that my dead stillborn cousins' grave was a godsend because it made it easier to climb over to my grandparents tombstones when laying candles and flowers.

I'm also one of the few guys who understood Joey de Leon's constant jokes about the late Francis Magalona. I wasn't offended at all or interpreted it as anything malicious like the internets did. The guy wept harder than any other Dabarkads and very well likely still loves him, I seriously doubt he meant any ill will.

Extremely nerdy. I don't really joke that much though. I just follow historical meme pages on Facebook and laugh at them when I get them. If I get them, I laugh. If I don't, a new hyperfocus is born. Like how just yesterday, I saw a meme about the Albigensian Crusade and I looked it up. Now I have three PDFs about the Crusade HAHAHAH

Ordinarily, a lot of puns and wordplay, some requiring knowledge so incidental that it might as well be an easter egg.

But when I get more relaxed, it can be extremely self-deprecating, becoming more and more fitting with gallows humor. Why laugh at others when my own life is an even bigger joke that keeps on giving?
