Material? Eh, no. Jeans is strong and easy to cleanup. Also comfortable to wear/touch.

The shape? Not particularly weird either. It's a good shape to throw some pillows inside and just melt with them....

That it is still in the legs shape instead of chair shape for one. Its one thing to take the materials apart and reuse them. This looks like Ed Gein watched the Centipede and then Project Runway and started getting ideas for new hobbies.
