So, what exactly are you doing differently now?
I mean I don't even live or have anything to do with America. Defending ideas I support on the internet is just something I do for entertainment. However, what I would do if I was part of this mess is join a progressive third party and get them to run for local and state office, maybe snatch a few progressive candidates from the Democrats, and start contesting elections.
Since you don't live in America I won't castigate you, but the idea of putting together a 3rd party in less than 24 months before the next election is like saying we should build a moon rocket in 24 months.
Third parties already exist; you don't need to make ine from scratch. That aside, I know it's impossible to contest federal office in 24 months, but you can have people enter local—and if things go well state—elections.
