Is it supposed to be to the side or to the front or do nazis not really care about the direction?
Front is standard, but as you can see sometimes it's off to the side. Apologists will probably say that Hitler didn't know how to do it right.

The Nazis "hated" Berlin. They were always babbling about the corruptive degeneration of city life to pander to moronic rurals.
