On a carnivore diet, there is less/no sugar, so insulin levels come down, so the body doesn't over retain salt. There is higher level of dietary salt required for optimal function.

One large 2020 observational study, which constitutes a weaker level of evidence, nonetheless showed that higher sodium intake correlated with longer life expectancy and decreased all-cause mortality.

If your feeling spicy and want to get into the weeds of the salt insulin relationship, I did a writeup of a endocrinology lecture that is really relevant. https://hackertalks.com/post/5706804

Several of the long term zerocarb people on Reddit reckon they have no need of extra salt beyond what is intrinsic to the meat they eat

My experience after 2 years is I don't need much salt but I do need some, and I need more the more alcohol I have

I agree, the first few weeks of lchf/carnivore ramping up the salt helps.

I add salt to taste, but even if I dump in too much salt it still tastes good. I just get more thirsty and pee out the unneeded amount.

The good side is you can taste when you've had enough salt
