This seems like a bad idea to start with...

Shooting at it with your rifle seems 100x better, even if that isn't terribly effective, you at least don't kill yourself.

I guess if you somehow magically timed it right, the shrapnel could hit the drone. But he's not behind any kind of cover, so it would rain down on him as well.
