If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

I was trying to do something more like a Simpson-ized pic

But to end up with the Shorty still making the face but looking more like The Owl House's Hooty.

Yeah it can't get much smaller as a photo, good point.

It still needs the tongue though. The tongue is what makes it.

It'd be a really good community icon if Shorty had won!

I just submitted some Owl of the Year winner banners and icons to the mod, so hopefully we'll see them soon if my images were sized right. Hard finding specs from Lemmy, so I just drew over someone else's banner that scaled nice! 😅

You seized the opportunity. Well played! And it makes a great personal profile pic.

I much enjoyed the Flammy/forest theme, but it felt like time to mix it up, and the face was right there, so now i have a Shortie and grasslands theme.

I'll have to see if I can find or make some real owl icons. I think that'd make it stand out some more from the simplicity.

If Disney wasn't so keen to hunt down people for copyright infringement I'd get a pic of Big Mama from The Fox and the Hound.

She's a superb owl!

It's either education... or e-limination!
