Exactly. There’s never been twelve teams I thought deserved a chance to play for a title, but there’s been 5-7 before. 12 makes sure those teams always make it and keeps more teams (and fans) interested later in the regular season. The initial BCS 1v2 game marked the fatal cut to the old bowl system; it just took time to bleed out.

I have also been asking for close games, and now realize I have jinxed myself. I agree about no one being left out though
