“After receiving reports of possible misconduct on our men’s swimming team, the University of Notre Dame engaged the law firm of Ropes & Gray LLP to conduct an in-depth review, which is now complete. The external review confirmed and expanded on our initial concerns about a deeply embedded team culture dismissive of Notre Dame’s standards for student-athletes, including our expectation that they treat one another with dignity and respect. This independent, external review also documented numerous violations of NCAA rules prohibiting gambling on intercollegiate swimming and other athletic competitions despite clear and recurrent training provided to all our student-athletes by our Athletics Compliance staff about those rules. These findings are contrary to the University’s values and all that we stand for in Notre Dame Athletics. In order to ensure that this behavior ends and to rebuild a culture of dignity, respect, and exemplary conduct, we have decided to suspend the men’s swimming program for at least one academic year.

The most memorable and successful Olympic games in Notre Dame athletics history has wrapped up with the closing ceremonies of the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Sunday, August 11. The University of Notre Dame saw 16 former and current student-athletes compete at the games, with the group combining for a school record 10 total medals (six gold, one silver and three bronze).

If Notre Dame student-athletes and alumni were a country, they would have tied for 14th with Hungary for the most gold medals in the ‘24 games and 21st with Poland and Belgium for the most overall medals.

This spring, ESPN’s Football Power Index ranked Notre Dame’s schedule the 19th-toughest in college football. Of their final 11 games, the Irish will face eight teams that won eight or more games last year. Headlining that list are serious playoff contenders in Ohio State, USC and Clemson. With their season-opening rout of Navy behind us, here’s how the Irish schedule stacks up from easiest to hardest.

Now, Notre Dame is 3-0 when facing Navy in Ireland, winning in dominant fashion, 42-3. Graduate student quarterback Sam Hartman led the way through the air with 251 passing yards and four touchdowns. The Irish running backs combined for 191 rushing yards, while the defense held Navy to just 126.
