Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.

This is not debate club. Unless it’s amusing debate.

AI has already taken tens of thousands of jobs. Which it's not doing still.

I hope all the creative teams that got sacked because the idiot CEO blew ten years worth of capital on an AI gamble hold out for C-suite pay to return.

Feed that picture into ChatGPT and ask it to explain the joke

it seems like you’ve had the joke fly right over your head

but then given your apparent predilection towards wanting outsourced thinking, the notion of using your own head must weigh far too heavy

The original post was basically suggesting that AI won’t be smart enough to replace humans because it gets basic things wrong like showing salmon filets in a river instead of actual live salmon. However, when you feed this picture to chatGPT, an AI itself, it very much can discern the difference between the two, refuting the premise of the original post and suggesting that actually we are at risk of being replaced by AI.

I’m sure we’d both appreciate being filled in, if you have the time.

I'll fill you in. If you're like me, you found this post in your general feed. Apparently, these folks seem to forget that lemmy is federated. Mostly people on Lemmy are good-natured, but it seems we've stumbled into a community of "edgy" folks who are smarter than you and I (ie. bitchy, sourpusses) and like to be negative about some "mainstream" tech news. Because these folks are smarter than us, they REALLY didn't like it when we did some basic research and inadvertently refuted the basic premise the top poster was advancing with his image of AI messing something up -- which is that AI is bad and most technologists are big dumb idiots. And while we’re at it, so are you if you don’t join them in making any comment, bad faith or not, against whatever the trending tech topic of the day is. Below me, is a comment from mod David Gerard encouraging this kind of toxicity, who apparently makes his living complaining about trendy tech topics despite selling merch through the same tech companies that make the tech he finds so awful. Anyway, I have no real energy over it. I wouldn’t call myself a techno-optimist. But, I do find insufferable cunts to be insufferable. Apparently, this instance also hosts a community called “sneerclub,” which David Gerard moderates and its entire purpose is just mocking people. It’s interesting when you turn over a rock and find some truly ugly people. All the better when you can block them, so you don’t have to encounter them again.

The one thing LLMs will always be better at doing than humans is pattern detection.

Incidentally, the best job suited to their capability to detect patterns in large amounts of data is doing what CEOs currently do
